Some Fun Resources for This Fourth of July

If you're in the United States, you're probably gearing up to celebrate Independence Day this weekend. Here are a few links that may be helpful as you plan your festivities.

For kid-friendly books about the Fourth of July, check out this helpful list from We Are Teachers. Women have often been left out of our historical accounts, so if you're looking for books that celebrate the amazing women who helped shape American history, check out this list celebrating revolutionary women from the folks at A Mighty Girl. (I'll take all the books on Abigail Adams!)

Many folks will have a three-day weekend, which gives more time for family activities. Country Living has a list of 25 family activities to choose from this Fourth of July.

Want a family movie night? Try The Sandlot for general summer fun. For older kids who can handle a little more intensity, National Treasure does a great job of celebrating American history while packing in a lot of action. Independence Day is a classic choice, but probably best for teens and adults as it will likely scare younger children. And, for the adults who want to do a deep-dive into the lives of one of our founding fathers, the John Adams mini series is thought-provoking. (I repeat: John Adams is for an adult audience!)

And what's a Fourth of July celebration without food? Delish has compiled some twists on American classic fare. I limit my gluten intake and I love pineapple, so I'd be curious to try this Pineapple Bun Burger.

Wishing you and your family a Happy Fourth of July!
